Sour Cream Apple Pie or Crisp

Adapted from a church cookbook. Does not taste like sour cream and is not custardy. This is a good topping recipe for any fruit crisp

Sour Cream Apple Pie or Crisp

Slightly different apple pie with a crumbly top.

Ingredients

  • Filling:
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cups sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 2 teaspoons lemon juice
  • 3 cups peeled sliced apples (or enough to fill your pan)
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 pie shell 9 inch
  • Topping:
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup oatmeal
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup cold butter

Instructions

  1. Mix filling dry ingredients.
  2. Add wet ingredients.
  3. Beat to a smooth, thin batter.
  4. Stir in apples.
  5. For pie: Place in the pie shell.
  6. For crisp: Sprinkle some of topping (below) in a 9" pie pan, then pour in apples.
  7. Combine topping ingredients, cutting in butter till about pea-sized lumps.
  8. Sprinkle over apple filling.
  9. Bake at 350° for 45 minutes or until apples are done and topping is bubbly and browned.
